The colorful slit tapestry-woven textile component on this pillow is part of a textile called Futu which is the local name for a man's ceremonial belt which is worn to complete his traditional dress. The weaving technique locally known as Mamesa has almost disapperared in West Timor but is slowly being revived in the community as a result of the work with Threads of Life over the years. The back panel of this pillow cover has been dyed blue using a indigo dye (Strobilanthes cursia) Technique by the weavers of Nek Mese in West Timor.
