Natural Dyes 

The batik textile used in making this pillow cover is made by the community of weavers, Sekar Ayu, in Tuban Java. The fabric is made from handspan heirloom cotton and woven on a backstop looms. It is then batiked using a small drawing pen called canting and then dipped into natural dye. Threads of Life works with weavers who still have the ability to make traditional textiles using natural dyes to generate income and to maintain the traditional weaving and dyeing practices that are so integral to their rich cultures.
